Resource
allocations should maximize the effectiveness of the major local efforts
of AAUP membership at their institutions and their state capitols. Currently,
only about 4% of the $4 million income of the AAUP is allocated to support
of Assembly of State Conference or Collective Bargaining Congress initiatives.
Virtually all national support for local organizing activities and provision
of services to conferences and chapters are funded from this 4% of the
national budget. The Association needs to strike a more effective balance
between support of vital local activitism and the important traditional
work of the national AAUP. The amount allocated to ASC and CBC should be
increased to at least 12% of the national budget over a two to three year
period.
