But, the news stories go to a summary on fwix.com, which is annoying for the user. First they see a summary on my site, then a summary on fwix, then finally they get to the real story. So I've stopped using fwix and use direct feeds from news sources instead. Google news is better as even though the url goes thru google, it transparently redirects the user to the real site. One summary is enough!

Maybe it will be a browser plugin. After installing Vimium, the vi-like plugin for chrome, and feeling the immediate satisfaction from pressing '/' to search - that was the kind of 'aha!' feeling I'm looking for, but with all my thoughts, plans, projects and mental namespace that available to me.

Comment on How to override ‘Create New’ for activescaffold associations by iwork

Hi Vokler - thank you for answering! I really appreciate the work on active_scaffold, I am using it extensively. I'm not sure though that any of the API: Column functions lets me modify the action; maybe I am setting it up wrong at an earlier step. Here is my actual code:
<code>
   def render_action_link(link, url_options, record = nil, html_options = {})
   if link.parameters[:association] == :qua_result and link.action == 'new'
      link_to "Retrieve Results", :controller => "qua_results", :action => "retrieve", :job => record
   else
      ...
   end
  end
</code>

So what I am doing is maybe not kosher, in that I am changing the action from :new to :retrieve. I do not want the user to be prompted with a form to create a new 'results' record, instead I want to retrieve a set of results from a remote location. I guess I could have allowed :new and added a callback, but I do not want the user to have to see a form at all. I just want to retrieve the results and then update the screen so that the user can see how many results there are and do things with them once they are retrieved.

I am new to Rails so it is very possible I am not doing this the 'right' way.

An angle on the intersection of linquistics and code. I had the opportunity to play this game while working at CS: http://www.wubble-world.com/?page_id=2 – “wubble-world” – IANAL (I am not a linguist) but I thought it was an interesting concept. You train a “softbot” to do tasks in a simulated 3-d world. Your training teaches it to learn concepts. The thing that impressed me with the game was how natural and effortless the human/computer interaction was compared to most interfaces.

The learning “what to do” in wubble world mimics the way children learn language.
