The Lrpdesigns response to "Do AZ: I do"

For this month's Member Showcase, the spotlight is on Lrpdesigns. What's a Tucson-based firm doing with a funny name like that?
"Website development and graphic design," says owner Martha J. Retallick.
Lrpdesigns (say "el-are-pea-designs") has been designing custom websites for a national clientele since 1995. Retallick (the name rhymes with "metallic") says that the company name evolved from her previous business, a book publishing venture called Lone Rider Productions. When she shifted her focus to website development, the business became known as Lone Rider Productions' Lrpdesigns, "but that was a mouthful." So, in early 1997, Retallick decided to "cut to the chase and just call it Lrpdesigns."
In addition to her entrepreneurial ventures, Retallick's professional background includes experience in magazine publishing, public relations and retailing. She earned a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of Michigan and has lived in Tucson for ten years.
Although she comes from a family full of artists, Retallick was also strongly influenced by her mother, a "practical, business type," and her father, "an engineer's engineer."
"One of the best parts of having a computer-based design studio is that I must utilize all of these things," Retallick says. "In my work, I draw on the arts and combine them with business acumen and the precision of computer technology. It's the best of all possible worlds."
When she's not designing sites for clients, Retallick can be found "diddling around" in Adobe Photoshop. With Photoshop, she can take her longstanding interest in photography one step further. "I like to take things that are 'real', change them into something 'unreal', then add a humorous twist." The cactus at the top of this page is a typical example.
