The <TITLE> Tag
The TITLE Tag should be the first line of text that appears after
the <HEAD> Tag in your html document.
When giving your page a Title, make sure that it contains a few
descriptive keywords.
For example, if you are ABC Company, and you sell retail "Books for Kids", do not title your page "Welcome to ABC Company". Instead, title the page, "Retail Books for Kids by ABC Company".
The Tag
The META Tag contains the description of the web site, and keywords
that are relevant to the content of the site. You may have more than
one META Tag in your document.
Here is an example of where the Tag is placed in your HTML
document:
<HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>Your Title Goes Here (including a couple of keywords, if possible)></TITLE> <META NAME="keywords" content="prioritize your keywords, then put here"> <META NAME="description" content="put your description here (including some major keywords)"> </HEAD> </HTML>
Keywords
- Start off by making a list of keywords that describe your products/services. Then, rank them in order of importance. (no more than 1,000 characters) - Use specific, descriptive non-generic keywords as much as possible. The more specific, the better! - Make keywords pertaining to how you think people will search for a web site with your particular content. - Use your keywords throughout the entire HTML document, and not just the Title and META Tags. In addition, put your most important keywords in the first couple of paragraphs of your web page. - Do a category search pertaining to the content of your web site and pay attention to the keywords used in the URL's that appear in the top 20.Return to the Top
Use small thumbnail graphics On-line users do not want to wait for large pictures to download. If they have to wait for any long period of time, with a click of their mouse they are gone, never to return. Not all browsers work the same. The rule of thumb is this. The bigger the graphic the longer it takes. Use WIDTH and HEIGHT tags The single most effective change you can make to increase loading speed, is to add WIDTH and HEIGHT tags to all of your images in a page: <IMG SRC="myfile.gif" WIDTH=w HEIGHT=h> where w=# of pixels wide and h=# of pixels high that "myfile.gif" actually is. More details, please check our Design Considerations: Loading Speed. More TIPS for Your Web Pges - Every page should have a <TITLE> in the <HEAD> area. - Every page should have <META> tags describing the page. - Every page should have a hot link to your e-mail address. - Pages linked from home page should have a link back to home page. - It's a good idea to include your address and phone number. - If you list a toll free phone, add your regular phone, too. - Don't use dark or black backgrounds -- they can't be printed. - For pictures, use JPG format -- GIF format is 2+ file size. - If you want to receive comments, don't use a only a FORM page. - If you use forms, acknowledge and provide a link to next page. - If you accept credit card orders, use secure order forms.Return to the Top
- Internet marketing is not static, it is an ongoing process. Putting your site on the web is not the end of your journey, it is the beginning. - Make it easy and convenient for someone to contact you and find your site. Remember, if they do not know where you are, they will not come. - Submit your URL to major Internet search engines/directories Go to any of the larger Search Engines (Ex: Webcrawler, Yahoo, Infoseek) and type in the key word "directory" or "Directories." Many will appear where you can go to and list your site for free. - Make an effort to advertise your web site off line. Your business cards, letter head, invoices, promotion items (pens, key chains, etc.), can contain your URL and email address. - Highly recommend following up on all the sites to ensure yours is listed 3 to 4 weeks (for some sites it may take longer) after the posting notification.Return to the Top

Some Tips for E-mail marketing
- Use asterisks ** to emphasize a word, just as you would use bold or italics in print. - DON'T USE ALL CAPS, IT'S CONSIDERED SHOUTING AND RUDE - Don't Spam! Not only do you risk getting "flamed" but many people now use e-mail filters to automatically delete messages from those they consider spammers. - Encourage clients, prospects, vendors, and friends to communicate with you by e-mail. - Use E-mail signatures on every document you send out. The signatures tells what you do, and if written correctly will bring many new visitors to your site. Try to keep your main signature to no more than 6 lines. More than that is considered a nuisance on the web. Change your signature whenever is needed (for different services/products).Return to the Top

Giving something away has been proven to work. You can do this many ways: a monthly drawing or contest, a different free sample each month, or something else you can do for others. The key here is to make friends and get their support for you and your page.
Give the market a reason to contact you. Value these requests and respond to their message politely, quickly, and professionally.
After you are up and running comfortably to answer all your Email message requests for information, autoresponder might be a good marketing tool for your next step.
The average monthly amount for an autoresponder is between $10.00-$15.00. Most services now provide tracking and email followup. Depending on the amount of requests you receive an autoresponder is an excellent online investment.
Barnes and Nobles, hometown bookstores, and your local library should have a large selection of these books available to help your marketing efforts.
